How to make your EDMs (emails) Compliant with ANTI-spam Laws

Sure it’s great to have 10,000 followers, but relying on social media as the primary method of communicating with your clients/customers can be hit and miss.

With any social media post, you’re probably only reaching about 3% of your followers, which won’t give you a great return on your investment.

If you’re wanting to directly communicate with an engaged audience, then EDMs (Electronic Direct Mail marketing) will give you much higher returns/results.

For starters, you know that the recipient wants to hear from you (they signed up didn’t they?), your message goes DIRECT to their inbox, and most EDMs have an open rate of 20-26%.

Did you know though, that when you are sending EDMs, you MUST adhere to all relevant guidelines? So if some of your clients are in Australia, some are in Europe, and some the US, then you must adhere to the guidelines of each of those regions.

This applies to both how people sign-up and unsubscribe, your email content and how data is handled.

Sound complicated? It doesn’t have to be. If you are using a EDM tool like Mailchimp (which is what I use) then there are lots of tips in their setup wizards that can help.

You should also read and be familiar with the various regional guidelines to ensure your email’s compliance. Checkout the links below for more information.
