Tip: How to filter out comments on Instagram

How to filter Instagram comments

For many of us, one of the things we love about Instagram is that it is a positive place to be, both for personal and business accounts. However, sometimes a word or phrase sneaks into your post’s comments that upsets the balance, and potentially upsets you and your online community. To prevent this and the stress that managing comments can bring, you can apply filters that hide comments containing specific words, phrases, numbers or emojis. Here is a simple step-by-step guide on how to filter out comments on Instagram.

How to filter out comments – on Apple & Android

  1. Go to your Instagram profile and tap  .
  2. Tap  Settings.
  3. Tap Privacy > Comments.
  4. Tap next to Hide Offensive Comments to turn it on.

Additionally, you can also apply a filter to hide comments that contain specific words, phrases, numbers or emojis that you’d like to avoid.

  1. Go to your Instagram profile and tap .
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Privacy > Comments.
  4. Tap next to Manual Filter to turn it on.
  5. Enter the specific words, phrases, numbers or emoji in the text box to filter out comments.

Note that custom filtering currently isn’t available in all languages:

  • Default Keywords: The default list of keywords is only available in certain languages.
  • Custom Keywords: Currently, custom keyword filtering doesn’t support languages without spaces (example: Chinese, Japanese, Thai).

When you apply filtering to your comments, it will be applied to both new and existing comments on your Instagram posts. If you decide to turn off comment filtering, the previously filtered comments on your posts will be restored.
